You likely have come to the realization that “hey I need some help with managing money, bills, and getting better with my finances”. For whatever reason, you just can’t figure it out!
You turn to the “Google Gods” for help. You type in a few key words and now you feel overwhelmed by different options…too many perhaps. How do you know which one is the right one for you? Which one should you choose?
Let’s go back a bit…before you reached out to google. What’s going on with you? What in your financial world is not working the way you want?
You get the idea…I could go on and on. How many of those could you relate to? Most of us have a burning desire to do something financially… and whatever that is for you, you should be able to get it for crying out loud!
My husband Mike and I are not perfect, however we haven’t carried a credit card balance in almost 20 years, we own our own vehicles, and we paid off our previous house before we bought the one we’re in now. Our mortgage is our only debt. We have RRSP’s and we’ve been on some great vacations. So, we must be doing something right you’d think.
We have to work at it. Having a system to beef up our savings every month is the very first thing you need to do, in my opinion, in order to do whatever is second. Let’s say you really want to get out from under your student loan. If you could save money each month, it would be possible to make that loan go away. But if you aren’t coming out on the plus side, that student loan is going to be sitting on simmer the whole time just driving you crazy. It’s an internal stress you could do without. The feeling of making that loan disappear is really one of accomplishment and freedom.
Say it’s not a student loan for you…just fill in the blank.
We had to do things like that before we got to where we are now. It took me a while to get out from under credit card debt, and it took some time to pay off our wedding/honeymoon all those 23 years ago! It was not easy for us to save the down payment for our first home either, but we did finally make that happen too.
Whatever it is, you must first save money in order to get it. That’s what I mean by “save money first, and whatever is second becomes possible.” First things first. That’s where I come in….for the first part.
When choosing a household budget system, I asked myself “why is this so hard for people? What is wrong with this picture?”
This is what I came up with:
Let me tell you a little something. No matter what system you choose, it will not be done for you. You need to do the work.
There is nothing in my system that I’m asking you to do that I don’t do myself. I “cap” my expenses as described in the training videos, I make “found money” count whenever possible, I track expenses, and I use the Monthly Page every month. I have to work at it and so do you! We didn’t become practically debt-free because it “happened” to us. We made it happen, and I’m very excited about putting my system out there for you because I want you to succeed with your finances. And I know you can because if it works for us, it can work for you too!
Don’t quit because it seems daunting…get past that part and onto the solution. Remember save first…anything else second.
